Abstract

A major focus of research in the past few years has been the development of immunotherapies for type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), an autoimmune disease that can manifest as early as 6 months of age. Developing immunotherapies is particularly important given the rise in the incidence of T1DM over the past 30 years, which is greatest in those presenting with the disease before they are 5 years old.
