Abstract
This study proposes a design of Sliding Mode Control (SMC) employed to control the position of a DC linear motor as this controller is insensitive to the existence of disturbance and uncertainty. In order to achieve a better performance, the optimal gains of the proposed design are optimised by the Bees Algorithm (BA), Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO), and Practical Swarm Optimisation (PSO) techniques. This is to reduce the chattering phenomena. This study is conducted using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Obtained results show that SMC based BA provides the best performance in terms of undershoot/ overshoot and settling time in comparison with the other two optimisation methods. The proposed SMC optimised by BA has also proven to be robust against system parametric uncertainties.
