Abstract

Biomaterials consisting of polymer materials have been investigated intensively for applications in neural tissue engineering and brain repair. More recently, they are also being used to develop models of diseases, typically in vitro or ex vivo, but also in vivo, which better recapitulate certain aspects of the pathology of the human condition. Herein, an overview of the use of biomaterials in neural cells, tissue, and the brain is provided in relation to the strive for better models and therapeutics for common neurological conditions of the nervous system.
