Abstract

This chapter provides an in-depth exploration of emotional labour experienced by nurses working in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), particularly within inpatient settings. It highlights the complexity of mental health issues among children and young people (CYP), the structure of CAMHS, and the unique psychological and ethical challenges faced by mental health nurses in this specialty. This chapter encourages a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach to CYP mental health, supporting nurses to work effectively and empathetically in this demanding field.
