Abstract

This paper proposes a novel approach for improving the conversion efficiency of thermoelectric generators through “pulse mode” operation. The theoretical outline for a thermoelectric generator operating under “pulse mode” is presented. A calculation based on a material with ZT̄ =1.5 shows that an increase in the conversion efficiency by ∼ 40% can be obtained through “pulse mode” operation. This is equivalent to a substantial increase of ZT̄ from 1.5 to 2.7.
