Abstract
This paper is concerned with one of the research lines developed within the framework of EMUVE (Euro-Mediterranean Urban Voids Ecology) European research project, which analyses the impact of urban low-cost activation strategies along the Euro-Mediterranean coastline after the bursting of the real estate bubble of 2008. Through the presentation of the social effects and the role of public institutions of two case studies, Campo Boario in Rome (Italy) and Can Batlló in Barcelona (Spain), the paper argues for the need to redefine the relationships between the different stakeholders, from the interaction between bottom-up and top-down approaches of an urban regeneration process in a post-recession scenario.
